Kyphoplasty

Kyphoplasty in Torrance, Southbay, Westside

Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat painful fractures involving the vertebral bodies that make up the spinal column, also known as vertebral compression fractures (VCF). Fractured vertebral body causes compression in the spine, resulting in pain. Fractures may involve collapsed vertebrae due to injury, cancer or osteoporosis, a disease that results in loss of bone mass, density and strength, that makes the bones weak and vulnerable to breaking.

Kyphoplasty Procedure

With Kyphoplasty, your Torrance pain specialists at Pacific Pain & Wellness Group use image guidance to insert a balloon into the fractured bone through a hollow needle to create a space. The cement is then injected into the cavity once the balloon is removed.

Kyphoplasty is usually recommended for patients who are seeking less invasive treatments after other options, such as wearing back brace or pain medication, have proven ineffective. This minimally invasive procedure can be performed in patients with debilitating pain that requires hospitalization, bed rest and stronger pain medications.

At Pacific Pain & Wellness Group, facet injection is performed by pain specialist Dr. Kartik Ananth. Your pain specialist at Pacific Pain & Wellness Group will discuss the options with you.
