Vertebroplasty

Vertebroplasty in Torrance, Southbay, Westside

Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive and out-patient procedure used to treat spine fractures. Fractured spine causes compression in the spine, resulting in pain. Spine fractures may involve collapsed vertebrae due to injury, cancer or osteoporosis, a disease that results in loss of bone mass, density and strength, that makes the bones weak and vulnerable to breaking.

At the Pacific Pain & Wellness Group, Vertebroplasty is performed by pain specialists Dr. Kartik Ananth.

Vertebroplasty Procedure

In Vertebroplasty, your Torrance pain specialists at Pacific Pain & Wellness Group use image guidance to inject a cement mixture into the fractured bone through a hollow needle.

Vertebroplasty is usually recommended after less invasive treatments, such as wearing back brace or pain medication, have been tried and proven ineffective. This procedure can be performed immediately in patients with severe pain requiring hospitalization or for conditions that limit bed rest and pain medications.

Who Can Benefit from Vertebroplasty

Vertebroplasty is recommended for patient suffering from:

  • Painful vertebral compression fractures in the spine
  • Osteoporosis due to long-term steroid treatment or a metabolic disorder
